Take Care of Your Eyes Today: Never Sleep with Contact Lense and Check Out Hydrogen Peroxide Solution

CCHi all!

I am so compelled to write this one because I just had a wonderful day out with my girls and two of my friends told me that they have red eyes because they slept with their contacts on. First of all, NEVER EVER sleep with your contacts on!! Your eyes need the oxygen to breath and depriving them of O2 can cause the veins to turn so red (I don't feel pretty with bloodshot eyes) and overtime, you will not have healthy-looking pearly white eyes anymore because the veins will start growing into your cornea to supply the oxygen to it. This condition is permanent and irreversible so please, don't wear your contacts to sleep if you want to avoid having ugly red veins creeping into your cornea permanently.

Secondly, never mix many pairs of lenses in a case. This was my mistake. Two months ago I suffered from conjunctivitis and also an allergy reaction due to poor care of my eyes. I mixed two lenses in a case because I have so many pairs and I was lazy to keep them separately and there were cross contamination that gave me a sty, conjunctivitis and also an allergy reaction to soft lenses. At one point, blood was oozing out from my tear duct! The doc told me I may have to give up on soft lenses, which sounded like the end of the world to me ( I am vain like that haha). The sty was annoying too because it left me with a bump (oil cyst) near my tear duct that took a month to go away. If it doesn't, it has to be surgically remove.

I was taking my eye for granted as I cincai cincai wash the lense and use expired lenses too. It was a costly mistake as I had to pay for RM600 in total for consulting an opthamologist. Learn from my mistakes, babes. Don't let your money go to waste (even if you can claim your medicals. Why go through all that suffering?).

Our eyes are the most tantalizing senses on our body. Being mute and deaf does not equal to being blind. Losing my sight will definitely take away my experience of life. I can't imagine not having my eyes. Plus, what other part of the body tells so much about a person? The eyes ARE the windows to the soul, cheesy I know, so let's practice good eye care from today onwards.

Anyway a friend was curious about my lense solution. Here I will share with you that I use AOsept

AOsept uses hydrogen peroxide (an antibacterial agent) that will sanitize your lenses. You'll get maximum comfort from it because it destroys all the bacteria and protein stuck on your lesnes. The metal at the bottom of the case will neutralize the hydrogen peroxide, turning it into water and oxygen. The bubbles formed will remove the proteins on lenses, which are the main cause of irritation and allergy. You have to wait 6 hours for the lense to neutralize. The price is around RM21.

If 6 hours is too long, there is Ever Clean which can get the job done in 2 hours (I am using this now). It uses a tablet that neutralizes the peroxide and the price is around RM30.

Oh, hydrogen peroxide can cause discoloration on colored lenses so please bear that in mind. Regardless, I still use it with my colored contacts and I can't really notice a big difference so I am sticking with this technology as it provides the BEST comfort to my eyes. If you have sensitive eyes, you can rinse the lense with Sensitive solution like Avizor's Unica on top of sanitizing with the hydrogen peroxide system (AoSept or EverClean)

I use this to rinse my lense before placing it onto my eyes.

If you feel lenses were uncomfortable after a week or so, chances are, you have protein build-up on your lenses. In this case, use a protein removal tablet to e soaked together with the lenses. I have to say I have never known eye comfort until I discover the peroxide solution (AoSept or EverClean). However, don't treat it like a normal solution as it will BURN your eyes if you did not neutralize it. I once dropped the solution in my eyes and it sent me screaming like no other. It feels like acid burn in my cornea and left me with red and dry eyes for 3 days. It got better after that so it was only temporary. Also, if you go to your friends' and wanted to rinse your lense, check the bottle first. If it has red ring on the top cap, it probably is peroxide-based which means don't rinse your lense with it. Only use the special case associated with it as it has the metal to neutralize the peroxide.

Okay, I sound like I work in the optical store now Haha. I feel strongly about eye care so I am writing this to share with you that taking off your lense tonight may save you from getting a conjuctivitis, sty, allergic reaction or even blindness. Love our eyes peeps. We only have a pair. Plus, pearly white eyes are healthy and beautiful.

Ferrarossa

I am a Versatile Blogger. Ha!

Happy Chinese New Year Everyone! It feels good to be back home with the family on the year of the Fluffy Bunnies. I am so flattered to receive the Versatile Blogger Award. It's my first y'all! Thanks so much sncport! Somehow it fuels back my writing juices.
The rules for the Versatile Blogger award are:

1. Thanks and link back to who gave you the award
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Pass it along to 7 beauty blogs you've recently discovered and enjoy
4. Leave your recipient a note, telling them about the award

Well I shared a couple of things about me in the previous post but that doesn't stop me from sharing more things about myself. Here it goes

1) I am a hopeless romantic

Oh yes, I am a fine piece of cheesy melt. I believe in finding the one true love who will fulfill my mind, body and soul. I am driven by emotions and I absolutely love symbolic gifts or a simple share of secrets or thoughts.

2) I am a certified "drug dealer"
I talk about chemotheraphy drugs for a living. I talk to Oncologists about the drug benefits and the researches associated with it. In a way, it's kind of cool to be a legal drug seller.

3) I can't live without my Blackberry
My Blackberry is my lifeline to my sister, my friends and my loved ones. Living without it for two weeks was very testing. Communication is definitely a biggy for me. I am glad to have it back!

4) I make a mean Peach Cobbler
Well, at least that's what they say. It's so easy to make, really! Anyway I haven't made it in a while but here's the recipe I found online. The buttery crispy crust and warm gooey peaches inside are irresistable! It's error-proof too.

5) I love kids!

I cant express enough how much I enjoy playing with younglings, especially toddlers. Their simple mind intrigues me. So cute, unsuspecting and carefree.

6) I am somewhat of a private person (?)
I think this is a weird part about me. I have a blog which shares my deep thoughts but at the same time I also have 283 pending friend requests on facebook. I am still figuring this part out.

7) I recently sang a song during the company dinner
In the realm of performances, I always regard myself as a dancer. I never thought of myself as a good singer. Anyway I jumped in the last minute to sing " Can't take my eyes of off you " in a duet. I guess this shows that I love trying new things.

So now I'd like to tag these 7 beauties

Things I Learn Everyday: Every Negative Experience Will Attract A Positive One

Sometimes I write for you, sometimes I write for myself. Well, I guess this one has to be for me.

Lately there have been many turbulences in my life. A couple of testing and trying moments came by one after the other and I couldn't help but question the purpose of going through these trials. Little did I know, life has bigger plans for me. With every downturn, comes the cliche "light at the end of the tunnel". After each misfortune, a jewel of opportunity presents itself. Next time, before I start to lose hope and start complaining of how sucky life is, I will give myself a reality slap to remind me that this is just a small price to pay for a bigger reward.

Someone close to me shared this theory:

"Every Negative Event Will Attract Positive One(s). "- Anonymous

These are a list of things that happened to prove that.

1) The Ill Drama
The Negative: Since my return to this beautiful homeland, I've been suffering from allergies, post-nasal drip, insomnia, GI and tonsil problems. I was living on a poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle. The stress and medication were no help to me.

The Positive: After getting tired of being tired and  falling ill, I took an interest in my own health. It triggered a series of change in my lifestyle and diet. I keep the stress at a minimum and now I feel healthier and am able to be more proactive. I find that I am more passionate about life and I enjoy cooking again, which may be a legit parameter of my happiness. The more I cook, the happier I am. And vice versa.

Above: Enjoying life to the Max!!! Haha I'm too lazy to find a fitting image so this one shall suffice to prove that I am enjoying every tidbits of life again.

2) The Love Drama
The Negative: I have qualms about sharing this, but I must remember that this happened. After a big outburst of two people who misunderstood and lack respect for each other, we went through a lot of  pain, heartache, doubts and uncertainty.

The Positive: We learned a thing or two about what it takes for a relationship to work and realized we needed to slow down. I learned to not wear my heart on my sleeve,to  reserve my excitement for future, not to over-analyze and idealize people and to not keep all my eggs in one basket. I hope he learned to be more sensitive and attune to the needs of  others, carefully string his words before he speaks and reserve his judgement if he lacks the information. We both learned a great deal about each other and we grow from this experience, as hurtful as it may be.

Above: My absolute favorite :delicate hydrangeas, aromatic stargazer lilies and romantic red roses. As cheesy as it is, flowers do make an effective sorry gift. I can say it softens me up by hmmmm....ALOT. I wish that I can get them during happy moments too.

3) The Neighbor Drama
Before I start, it is necessary to put up these pictures for your better understanding

Above: I have a very territorial neighbor who likes to put potted-plants relatively far from the curb to prevent others to park in this parking-scarce neighborhood. They used to have FOUR pots on the road but somehow it was reduced to only one pot. I guess that's an improvement.
Above: For aesthetic purpose, this out-of place potted plant was placed between my house (right) and their house to mark the division of our property and also to prevent any parked car to invade their precious compound, regardless of their HUGE ASS GATE ,big enough to fit a trash pickup.

Above: You see the gate that can fit this one or two persons? Note that it can't fit a car. No one is allowed to block this holy gate to heavens. Apparently, when the gate is blocked, the poor soul who needs to transition lacks the ability to walk around the blockage and onto the grassy area to make it through the sacred door.

To make this story longer than necessary, I parked my car where this car is one night as I was concerned of my safety. The neighborhood gets freakishly dark and  has poor lighting at night. Though I am aware of their territorial attitude, I thought they would have enough discretion to let a scared and weak single woman who may be in danger to park in front of the holy sacred gate. But no.....

Above: The deathly reminder I received on my car the morning after I blocked the gate of Nirvana. I felt a little threatened by the choice of color and the fact that the writing covers the whole paper. A little note would do, really.

Anyway it is pointless to go on and on about this. I know law enforcement may have their hands too full to do anything about this and I think I will be the bigger person and not let petty people get to me.

The Negative: An embarrassing confrontation gone down ala Jerry Springer. Believe me it's so ghetto I can't even start to explain how low these people behaved. Yelling and screaming and intruding personal space with threatening body gestures. Gosh, I am not proud of myself either for breaking into tears and saying hurtful things but this ugly event needed to happen.

The Positive: Seeing how horrific things were, my father who was at the scene is now scared for my life. Haha. I think he may be too protective of me and now we're going to buy a house together! (Any property advice?Anyone?) It is such a big deal for me! Now I don't hate my neighbor anymore. Next time I see her I will kiss her stinky toe and thank her for getting me a new crib! Thanks territorial neighbor!

Now, suck that! Ha!

4) The Drama Mama

Well this last one is a little too personal for me to share, but ah well I shall do it anyway.
The Negative: The loss of a mother who I dearly need, love and miss everyday.

The Positive: The strength that I get from the fact that she is in me, half of me is made of her and her spirit that goes on even when she is not physically present. She became my conscience and guidance, as I always think of what she'd do or feel whenever I am in a dilemma. I became more independent, nurturing and selfless, just like her. My love for her deepens and I never let self-pity take over my life. Her positivity carries on in me and the lives she left behind (Akak and Apit).

Above: "There are ups and downs but I believe in being always optimistic. It's pointless to live a life of fear and regrets"-
Mama after her cancer diagnosis written in her last journal.

Family's Scrambled Eggs and My New "Fishy" Partner

Hello lovelies! It has been a while, eh? Well I am happy to say that the chef in me has made a comeback and I've been spending more time in the kitchen. I just love cooking for others, especially my brother who is such a pleasant eater. Just watching him eat gives me lots of satisfaction.

I have been a foodie since the beginning of time and I wish I had taken a course in culinary arts. My favorite TV series are Top Chef, Giada at Home, Nigella Bites- to name a few. I just love hosting parties and get-together, which I haven't been doing since I moved to KL. I used to do so a lot more during college days. Haha. I was pretty domestic back then. I just need a proper kitchen with a nice big oven and prep space for baking needs and proper tools, which I lack in my current house. Oh, and a dishwasher would be nice too, please.

Either way I shall stop rambling and put some pictures up for interest purposes.

Above: Breakfast made with love for my daddy and bro. Scrambled eggs topped with mozarella, caramelized onion, mushroom and sausage with Fruit salad, vanilla yogurt and muesli. I think you can tell that I LOVE EGGS.

Above: Such a cute egg song! It will get stuck in your head. Haha

Above: My new buddy, I have yet to name him/her. How the hell can you tell the sex of a fish? Anyway I wonder how long this poor thing will stay alive. I will try my best to be a responsible owner of a colorful fighter fish.

Toodles. Next post is makeup-and-beauty-related. I promise. MUACKS

Vaccination against Hurtful or Unintended Comments?

I still remember the first few days I arrived in the dorms at Davis. I tried talking to people around me and I was a scared little puppy. When I started to communicate, people didn't understand my Malaysian accent and I was asked to repeat what I was saying many many times. After a couple of failed attempts, people stopped asking and I stopped talking.

That was when I met a special person who took me under his wings. He nurtured me, taught me how to speak like them plus other fancy vocabularies, and scolded me when I didn't stand up for myself. All his mentoring changed me: my confidence was brimming and I was no longer afraid to speak up. I am forever indebted to this wonderful and lovely person.

In the pursuit to better my communication skills, I took this class called Interpersonal Communication and boy, it changed my life. I realized that I took for granted the importance of communications in my daily life, and I was practicing some damaging communications skills. Quoting from the textbook that I still keep today,

"We spend our lives communicating. From the moment we're born we interact in meaningful ways with other humans beings... Eventually, we discover that communication enables us to connect with and understand the unique inner worlds of others....Communications is transformed from a vehicle for self-expression to a means for building relationships"- Reflect and Relate by Steven McCornack.

This definition is universal to all human, no matter how introverted you are. The point of all my rambling is that, through communications (verbal or not), we exchange meaning, feelings, thoughts, expressions. It is a pretty darn powerful way to interact!

Never in any circumstances shall we undermine the power of words. Words are NOT just words. "The words we exchange profoundly affect not only our interpersonal communications and relationships but also others" (Steven McCornack). I remember my lecturer's childhood anecdote that she shared during the mentioned class. My lecturer was often bullied by her sister when she was a little girl and when she cried running to her mom, her mom would comfort her by saying that "words are words, nothing more than that". However, if this was true, why didn't she feel better? She was still hurt and emotionally scarred by her sister's teasing and verbal abuse.

The truth is, whether we do mean or not the words we utter, we must take responsibility of the things we say. We must be aware that when we say things, it is like throwing an imaginary ball encapsulating a message to someone. We say words, people will take it as a verbal manifestation of your intention (regardless of your REAL intention, if any) and your words have the ability to excite, humiliate, elevate, or hurt others. Words can make a person reach the highest point of elation (eg: "I love you" , "Marry me?" , "You made me the luckiest person alive") or cause irreversible damage (eg: "I don't love you anymore" , personal attacks, hurtful and insincere comments).

Sometimes we say things we don't mean to say. Sometimes we're driven by emotions. Sometimes we don't realize that the words we say actually matter. They do! They matter alot. Especially the words of people we love and admire.

There's no way we can be "immune" to hurtful utterance. There's no way to delete our memory of a negative comment. There's no way we can just disregard the words that were not "meant" to be said, the accidental remarks. We are humans with feeling, not robots. Hurtful and negative words cause irreversible damage to people and relationships. It can take months to get over and sometimes it'll stick around in our permanent memory for eternity. Do we want this to happen to our loved ones?

So the point of all these is a mental reminder for myself and for sharing purposes, because I have been awakened by the power of hurtful and damaging words. Let's be careful and wary of the things we say to others as in Think Before We Speak. Spend a couple of seconds to decide how the words we choose are going to affect others. Because I still can't find the Vaccination against Hurtful Comments or the spell to Turn the Clock.

When we hurt people, people will leave us.

Footnote: THREE (3) of my girlfriends I talked to has bought the communications bibles I recommended below. Men are From Mars and Women are from Venus is the best-seller that covers the quintessential of cross-gender communications while Mars and Venus Together Forever reiterates the same concept, but in the context of a relationship or marriage. You and your man will find it useful. It definitely made a difference in my relationship(s).

Above:Take home msg from this piece: W0men need empathy, not solutions, while men need to be appreciated and express themselves through actions.

Above: My current read..

P/s: I immensely enjoyed Shrek 3 (I know I am late :P).

Healthnote: Jogged 3 laps, 1 breakfast shake, normal lunch, fruit salad and dinner was rice, mixed vegs, fish and egg.

Who's in the Mirror?

She never stops inspiring me from above

Mood: Deeply Reflective
Listening to: Knocking of Heaven's Door by Avril Lavigne.

If you're in for something light and easy, please skip.

I have no idea why I am writing this now. I am scared to jot my deepest thoughts here (who knows who's reading?), but I feel compelled to share this with you tonight. With this sharing, may my heart be freed of burden and may I feel a little relief. It's 1240am and I haven't had much sleep these past couple of days. I am officially an insomniac. This is because I've been doing some major thinking and reflecting lately.

Thanks to this blog, I found my other old dusty blog, which has triggered a series of questions about my self and what I want in life. The meeting with Dr h20 also amplified the effect of this soul-searching and future-planning, and the CDs I just made of the old songs just brings back the rushes of teenage (I am not a teenage anymore meh? *cries*) memories. It's like I'm watching my life being rewound and replayed really really fast.

I have managed to dissect and analyze the changes I went through pre, during and post-USA. I changed so much: some for better, some for worse. I can't say that I am proud of the person I have become or all the things I have done, but I will stand behind my actions and be accountable for all my mistakes. I do apologize if I hurt anyone in my quest to find what I am looking for. Truly....and sincerely.

Because I was not ready to come back home, my mind was set for the worst. I was constantly bickering and complaining about everything. I was self-absorbed, harsh and hurtful to some extent. I longed for the dandy life I had in Davis and if possible, I wanted to escape the responsibilities that await me at home. Upon arrival, I had to do major readjustments of my perceptions. All my expectations were not met and I wallowed in disappointment when things aren't as rosey. I wished for better places and things. I wanted to pack my bags and leave. I became a bitter person.

To make up for this bitterness, I tried to make myself happy with material things, food and superficiality. I love being prestigious and glamorous, larger than life. I look for comfort at the wrong places, with the wrong people. I let superficiality defines me. I'd push the envelopes and do things people in their right mind wouldn't.

It has been more than a year now and I have realized, that although I did put up a fight against being here, I know that as of NOW and TODAY, that there's nowhere else I'd rather be. My family is the reason that I am here and I wouldn't want to miss any moment away from them. My dad has come to be increasingly involved in my life and our relationship blossomed as we lean on each other for support after mom's demise. My sister has become my oxygen and my rock in times of need and she's been the person to call me out and tell me things I need to hear, however unpleasant it may be. My brother is a sweetheart who's never rejected me even at my ugliest persona and was always there lovingly and ready to advice me (terbalik kah?). I have many wonderful friends surrounding me: always so ready to share a laughter, an ear, or a shoulder. I love each and every one mentioned. In addition, I have met someone who has brought out the better in me. His contagious thoughtfulness, selflessness and carefree positivity has shown me the kind of person I aspire to be, though I know I have a long way to go.

I may be blunt, critical, antagonizing and pessimistic. I may come off too strong, aggressive and proud. I may be manipulative, insensitive, selfish, defensive and impatience. I may take it too personally and think too much. I may be driven by superficiality and hedonism. I may be narcissistic and uptight, or too self-conscious and vulnerable. The list goes on.

I am stating all these weaknesses because I know, Self-awareness is the first step to self-improvement. I want to be a better and healthier person: mind, body and soul.

This is a promise I make to myself:
I want to be a more selfless person: with patience and understanding. I won't let little things ruin my relationship and I will be less calculative of what I give. I will be more thoughtful of others and I shall be moderate in my spending and expectations of others. I shall not antagonize people and I will accept individuals as they come: reserving my judgment and criticism, unless called for. I will remind myself of who I was, when life was simpler and when I was happier. I will be more humble and forgiving. I will be grateful of what I have, express appreciation to people who love me. I will stop messing around. This list is not exhaustive.

Besides myself, I am also searching for what I want to do with my life. Keep my job or pursue a higher degree of education? Science or MBA? Overseas or local? I want to achieve higher things in life and I want to make the most of my ability and contribute back to society in some way. I don't have a clear plan at all but I've been thinking a lot about this lately.

Today at work I met an oncologist who told me of his journey to Ozzie, which was sponsored by local university. This option looks attractive to me, but I have so many hesitations. At 25, it is quite upsetting that I still don't know what I want to do. I enjoy and love my job, though I thirst for new things. What I am looking for is self-fulfillment. I have the affinity for knowledge and I want to go back to being a learner. I miss it. Nowadays the internet is my sole source of information, inspiration and mental stimuli. I want a challenge, I want to put myself out there and test my limit.

I hope I won't regret writing this down. All I want to do is to remind myself to be a better and inspiring person.

I am sorry if this somber post affects you in any way. Hugs.

Much love and care,
Ferrarossa

Ice wrapped in a Towel weaved by Cachinnation

Sejuk gedi: 2007

I vow to make my blog as cheerful and inspirational as much as possible, but inevitably every now and then I'd get Life's wake up call at the most unexpected times! Overwhelmed with joyous emotions and new-found love, I forgot that I am still on this roller coaster ride.

It has been looping upwards in happy and giggly circles, I totally forgot about the roll of doom downwards. I guess this is where the "what not" part comes in. It's not all sweet and exciting : not just sugar and spice. Cheer up! Lighten up, self! You'll get back on the merry ellipse and it shall be cupcakes and lollies again.

BTW thanks for the reminder, Life. Prayers always.

p/s: Anyways, as I was looking for a picture of me with a lollipop ( I know I took one a looooong time ago but alas, found a semi-relevant pic of me with a sugarcane. Any sort of candy shall do), I stumbled upon an abandoned dusty old blog of mine created in 2006. I can't help but wonder if this blog will end up in the same fashion as the R.I.P blog. I forgot that I lived such a carefree and simple student life filled with home-made economic meals, budget purchases and wonderful companions!

May I never forget who I was, NOT Larger than Life, Just a Girl Next Door. Stay the same, self. Get back on earth.

Cheers everyone.

You may skip the part below.

Health Note:

Today I consumed 2 shakes back-to-back because I am planning to consume a normal meal at dinner ( Laksa Penang, wait for me!) as I have promised a friend for a rendezvous(?) tonight. I feel great though I have to complain about the everlasting thirst that manifested recently. 4litres of H2o per day isn't enough to quench my thirst! The frequent loo visit is getting to me now. What's up with my body? My theory is that it may be related to my blood pH? My coach told me that there is a condition called acidosis which may cause my lingering lethargy. This may be true, but I need a blood test to confirm such a claim.

By the way, I did 3 laps of jog around the park yesterday (thank you Rain Man for hearing my prayers) and I planned to jog again today, however it seems like Mother Nature is clenching to the watering can today *break out into a rain dance. Waka waka* Sweating feels good and I was surprised that my stamina wasn't as brittle as I expected. Oh well, a day in with a hot Milo doesn't sound so bad after all.

Note to self: Never forget my favorite Vanilla Shake recipe: 200ml water, 1tbs dried cranberries, 2 cuts of banana, 2 cuts of papaya, 1 cut of pineapple, 1/2 cap full of vanilla essence.

<3

UPDATE: In the end I managed to squeeze in 4 laps of exercise walking with my beloved housemate. It was a walktherapy and sweating feels healthy, though I had to wash my hair again!

Tissue, Tea and Sympathy

Well well well...How do I write this without coming off as a mean person? I don't think there is a way to go about this!

Disclaimer: Read with Discretion. Bold Language ahead. You eat cabai you feel hot lah!

Dear little crybaby,

So Boo hoo! You made a terrible mistake in your life and now you regretted what you've done and you wish you can turn back time and redo it ALL over again.

Pardon me but I've got news for you honey: the milk is spilled and it has already turned sour: planet's rule of irreversibility.

You developed a Victim Complex and wallow in deep self-pity and vulnerability. You get your ways through manipulative tears and guilt-trips. Congratulations to the best Drama Queen in town! *applause* Your waterworks are impeccable and the timing is right on the dot! I admire you for that because I have to work my way to squeeze out my tears (usually as a last resort :P) and it is hard work I tell you, making myself cry when I am remotely sad. Haha.

I am far from perfect but I do believe in having self-respect. I want to earn my respect through charm and intelligence, not through eyeball juice. Why don't you try some of that?

Now c an you please get yourself some tissue, tea and sympathy... elsewhere....
